2010 RIESLING

2010 Hobbit Hollow Vineyard Riesling

Wine Spectator – James Molesworth

A very crunchy, pure style, with mouthwatering pippin apple, pear skin and green plum fruit flavors racing along and a nicely defined, slate-tinged finish.  25 cases made.

Score: 90

2010 Patrician Verona Vineyard Riesling

Wine Spectator – James Molesworth

On the drier side, with a hint of talc giving way to green plum, green fig and bitter almond notes.  The stylish finish lets a jasmine note echo. More grace than power, with nice length.  25 cases made.

Score: 90

2010 Dry Riesling

This has power and cut, with layers of pear skin, green almond and kiwifruit pulp, backed by a long finish filled with bitter almond and anise.  Very solid.  110 cases made.

Score: 89

2010 PINOT NOIR

2010 Barrel Reserve Pinot Noir2010 Barrel Reserve Finger Lakes Pinot Noir

Pinot File – Rusty Gaffney, The Prince of Pinot

Light reddish-salmon color in the glass. Strikingly aromatic with hi-tone scents of red berries, red cherries, brown spice, molasses, beet root and spice.  Very elegant and charming with a tasteful array of fruits including red cherries, red raspberries and cranberries.  Wonderful whole cluster spice and a hint of root beer. Modest in weight with balanced tannins, a bright acid backbone and a wholesome finish of some persistence.  Very exotic and interesting.

At the end of the day, when I had a dozen opened wines to choose from, many of which were from California, this was the wine I chose to drink before and with dinner.

Score: 93

Burghound – Allen Meadows

An admirably pure nose is comprised by notes of dried rose petal, raspberries and cherry nuances.  The detailed and precise medium weight flavors possess plenty of punch before concluding in a delicious, rounded and balanced finish that delivers fine depth and length.  While there is a hint of asperity on the finish but overall there is better phenolic maturity to the supporting structural elements.

Score: 89

2010 Polarity

Wine Spectator – James Molesworth

This is off beat, with a very creamy, languid feel, but nice persistence to the blood orange sherbert, Earl Grey tea and jasmine notes that hang through the finish.  Intriguing.  For the wine geek crowd. Pinot Noir, but vinified as a white wine.  81 cases made.

Score: 88

2010 Pinot Noir

Burghound – Allen Meadows

A very pretty nose features notes of relatively high-toned red berry fruit, floral and spice aromas.  The cool, restrained and attractively well-detailed middle weight flavors possess good verve before terminating in an appealing dry and clean finish of moderate depth but solid length where there is just a hing of youthful austerity.  This could easily be drunk now, but should improve in the cellar for 3 to 5 years if desired.

Score: 88

2010 Hobbit Hollow Vineyard Pinot Noir

Burghound – Allen Meadows

…Reveals an admirably fresh and pure nose of wild raspberries, cherries and dried roese petal hints.  This is also very restrained with cool and moderately austere medium-bodied flavors that possess a dusty mouth feel on the linear and almost lean finish that is underpinned by firm but ripe tannins.

Score: 88

2010 Patrician Verona Vineyard Pinot Noir

Burghound – Allen Meadows

A distinctly spice and very pretty nose displays notes of high-toned red berry fruit aromas that include cranberry and strawberry along with the medium register notes of cherry and raspberry.  The supple and quite forward flavors are both cool and restrained.

Score: 88

2010 Elaine’s Vineyard Pinot Noir

Burghound – Allen Meadows

A fruity but necessarily simple mix of red and dark berry fruit scents enjoy added breadth from the presence of soft floral and wood hints. The restrained and focused flavors are not only delicious but exude and alluring sense of energy before culminating in a nicely persistent finish.
